Posture is considered the "backbone" of an individual’s ability to move and function. Many factors like muscle imbalance, reflexes, and forces of gravity can continuously affect postural alignment and can lead to distortions in posture.

When caring for individuals with disabilities, first "Consider Posture". 

A major consequence of living with disabilities over time is that it may cause a change or deterioration of body shape. This can be explained by some or all of the factors mentioned above and age-related changes, but it is mainly the result of a loss of the ability to align oneself in a symmetrical elongated posture.  When caring for children with disabilities it helps to think in terms of “seeing the end in mind,” in other words forward-thinking.  By this, I mean one needs to understand how a child's posture may change as they mature and age. So our purpose is to "Consider Posture", by learning how posture changes and how one may assist in improving it. The goal is to try to understand how and why one's posture may change and to explore ways of preventing future possible distortions.  

In this website, I will examine and explore the best ways to prevent, reduce and support individuals with body shape challenges.  

I invite families, caregivers, and therapists to join us in learning how to care for and manage the posture of children and adults with disabilities during functional activities of daily living (ADL), therapy, rest, school, and the night.

This website changed in April 2023 from a group collaboration to a single person managing its content.
